How selling through RedSpear works
No grey areas. Here is the whole journey, from listing to money in your account:
1You list it, free. Photos, an honest description and your price. We review every listing by hand, usually within 24 hours. It runs for 4 weeks, and you can re-list free if it does not sell.
2A buyer pays RedSpear. The money comes to us and sits in holding — never a direct transfer between strangers. You ship knowing the payment is already secured.
3You hand it over. Posting it? Queensland only, tracked service, every time. Send us the tracking number the day you post it, and add AusPost Extra Cover at the counter for anything over $100 — that is the step that protects your payout. Local pickup? Arrange a time with the buyer directly. They check the item over in person before they take it, which is the one thing posting can never offer.
4You get paid. On a pickup, immediately. We contact you both straight after the handover, and the moment you have both confirmed you are happy, the payout goes — no waiting on a delivery scan. On a posted item, we contact the buyer once tracking shows delivered, then release. Either way, if the buyer goes quiet, 48 hours passes and the money is sent regardless. How does it work if the buyer picks it up?
You arrange a time with the buyer directly. Nothing changes about the money — they have already paid RedSpear before you meet, so you are never handing gear over hoping someone transfers you later. What changes is the timing: right after the handover we contact you both, and the moment you have both confirmed, your payout goes out immediately instead of waiting on a delivery scan. Pickup is the fastest way to get paid on RedSpear.
One thing to be clear on: at a pickup the buyer inspects the item in person before taking it, so once they accept it on the day, the sale is done. Go over it together properly before it changes hands — that protects both of you.
What if a buyer disputes the sale, or says it never arrived?
Payouts are released on evidence, not on a claim alone. On a posted item, if tracking shows delivered and nothing is reported within 48 hours, you are paid; if a buyer raises an issue inside that window the payout pauses while we investigate, judged on the tracking and your listing rather than either side’s word. A tracking record showing delivery to the buyer’s address weighs heavily in your favour. On a pickup there is no tracking, which is exactly why acceptance happens face to face — once the buyer has looked the item over and taken it, it is theirs.
What happens if the parcel is lost in transit?
Because payouts only release on confirmed delivery, you are never paid for a lost parcel — and the buyer is refunded from the held funds, not out of your pocket. You then claim AusPost compensation (the first $100 of cover is free, add Extra Cover for anything worth more) and we hand you the order and tracking records to back the claim. What gets a listing rejected?
Anything that does not comply with Queensland gel blaster law, or that is unsafe, misleading, or not suitable for the marketplace. Clear photos and an honest description sail through.
