MilSim Loadout Checklist — Gel Blasters QLD

A milsim day isn't a quick 20-minute skirmish — it's hours in the field, usually in the Queensland heat, running objectives with your team. Turn up missing your eye protection, a charged battery or enough water and your day's over before it starts. This checklist covers everything to bring to a gel blaster milsim in QLD, so you rock up sorted and stay in the game.

Last reviewed: June 2026.

The non-negotiables: a field-legal blaster, sealed eye protection, charged batteries, loaded mags with the right gels, and enough water for a full day in the sun. Forget any one of these and you're sitting out.

The blaster and ammo

  • Your blaster, chrono-tested under the field's FPS limit (usually 300–350 FPS for rifles). Running hot? Sort the spring before the day, not on arrival.
  • Charged batteries — plus at least one spare. A dead battery mid-game with no backup ends your day.
  • Magazines, loaded and tested. Confirm they feed before you leave home.
  • Gels — right size, prepped per the field's rules, and enough for the day. A milsim day burns far more than a quick skirmish.
  • Basic tools and spares — allen keys, a spare battery, a few spare gels, and anything model-specific.
  • Something to carry it all — a pouch or pack for spare mags, gels and tools.

Eye and body protection

Non-negotiable. Every QLD field requires it, and most will turn you away without it.

  • Sealed, rated eye protection — proper goggles, not open-sided sunglasses.
  • Lower-face or mouth protection — mesh or a guard, especially for CQB.
  • Gloves — your hands cop hits and you'll be handling mags all day.
  • Knee pads if you go prone or play hard cover.
  • Closed, sturdy footwear with grip — fields are uneven and often muddy.

Clothing and load-bearing

  • Weather-appropriate clothing in layers you can shed as the day heats up.
  • Plate carrier, chest rig or MOLLE vest to carry your mags and gear.
  • Belt and a dump pouch for empty mags.
  • Hat or head cover and sun protection — the QLD sun is relentless in the open.

Hydration and fuel

  • Water — more than you think. A hydration bladder is ideal; bottles work. QLD heat dehydrates you fast.
  • Electrolytes for long, hot days.
  • Snacks or lunch for a full-day event — you can't run on empty.

Comms and admin

  • Radio and earpiece if your team runs comms — and a plan to actually use them.
  • Booking confirmation and field fees (cash or card — check what the field takes).
  • 18+ ID. Fields are strictly over-18; bring proof.
  • Phone and a power bank.

Field extras (the stuff people forget)

  • Sunscreen and insect repellent
  • Basic first aid — blister plasters, any personal medication
  • A towel and a change of clothes for after
  • A rubbish bag — pack out what you bring in
Don't leave home without: a field-legal blaster · sealed eye protection · charged batteries (plus a spare) · loaded mags and gels · water · 18+ ID and your booking confirmation. Everything else is comfort — these six keep you in the game.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need for a gel blaster milsim?

At minimum: a field-legal blaster (chrono-tested under the FPS limit), sealed eye protection, charged batteries with a spare, loaded magazines, enough gels for the day, and plenty of water. A vest or chest rig to carry mags, weather-appropriate clothing, and 18+ ID round out the essentials. Forgetting eye protection or a charged battery will keep you on the sidelines.

What FPS is allowed at Queensland gel blaster fields?

Most QLD fields cap rifles at around 300–350 FPS, with engagement-distance rules for higher-powered setups. Limits vary by field, so always check the specific field's rules before the day. If your blaster runs hot, swap the spring down before you arrive rather than risk being turned away.

What should I wear to a gel blaster milsim?

Closed sturdy footwear with grip, weather-appropriate clothing in layers, gloves, and a vest or chest rig to carry your mags. Sealed eye protection and lower-face protection are mandatory. In the Queensland sun, add a hat and sunscreen — milsim days are long and often fully exposed.

How much water should I bring to a milsim day?

More than you think. For a full day in the Queensland heat, plan on at least 2–3 litres per person, plus electrolytes. A hydration bladder lets you drink on the move without breaking from the game. Dehydration is the most common reason people drop out early.
