Free Gel Ball Testing Log

Ask ten gel blaster players for the best gel ball and you'll get ten different answers — because there isn't one. The "best" gel depends on your blaster, your hop-up, your inner barrel, the water you grow them in, and how long you grow them for. A gel that runs perfectly through one setup can feed badly or shoot all over the place through another.

The short version: there's no universal best gel ball — it's setup-specific. The only way to know what runs best through your blaster is to test. This free spreadsheet makes that straightforward: log a few brands, enter your numbers, and it scores and ranks them for you.

What the testing log measures

It's built to take the guesswork out of gel ball choice, across different water types and grow times:

  • FPS consistency (chrono) — average FPS, spread and standard deviation across ten shots, so you can see which gels fire consistently and which spike. Handy when you're dialling in to your field's FPS limit.
  • Size & weight consistency (sorter) — average weight and the small/medium/large split, so you know which brands grow to a uniform, on-spec size.
  • Accuracy & grouping — hit rate and group size at 10–30 metres, including the prime 15–25m engagement range.
  • Overall rating — your own 1–10 score and notes per brand.

The dashboard pulls it all together into a single score and tells you the best performer — for your setup, not someone else's.

How to use it

  • Set your loadout once (platform, battery, MOSFET, hop-up, barrel, mag).
  • Add the gel ball brands you want to compare.
  • Run the tests — chrono ten shots, weigh and sort a sample, shoot some groups at distance.
  • Enter the numbers. The sheet calculates spread, yield, accuracy and an overall score automatically.
  • Read the dashboard — it ranks your brands and names the winner.

We're testing too.

RedSpear is running this exact process across the popular brands — a full tested comparison is on the way. In the meantime, the log lets you settle it for your own blaster today.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gel ball for a gel blaster?

There's no single best gel ball — performance depends on your blaster, hop-up, inner barrel diameter, the water you grow them in, and the grow time. A gel that's perfect for one setup can underperform in another. The reliable way to find the best gel for your blaster is to test a few brands and compare FPS consistency, size uniformity and accuracy — which is exactly what this free testing log is for.

How do I test gel balls for my blaster?

Grow each brand to the recommended time, then measure three things: FPS consistency over ten chrono shots, size and weight uniformity from a sorted sample, and accuracy or grouping at 10–30 metres. Record it all against the same loadout so the comparison is fair. The testing log structures this and scores each brand automatically.

Why does gel ball size and consistency matter?

Uniform, correctly-sized gels feed reliably and seal in the hop-up the same way every shot, which means consistent FPS and tighter groups. Brands that grow to inconsistent sizes cause feeding issues, FPS spikes and flyers — so size yield is one of the biggest predictors of real-world performance.
