The inner diameter (ID) is what actually touches the gel as it fires — too loose and the gel rattles down the barrel losing energy and accuracy, too tight and a slightly oversized gel jams the shot outright. The outer diameter (OD) is the bit that has to physically fit your gearbox or GBB housing.

Do you actually need one? (Honest answer)
Not every setup needs a barrel swap. Running stock at close-range CQB with decent gels, the factory barrel is doing an adequate job — the tolerances at that range are forgiving.
Where it earns its keep is mid-to-long-range and precision play, where every bit of extra grip on the gel turns into a straighter shot. Go 7.3mm ID if your gels are consistently sized. Go 7.5mm ID if they're not, or you'd rather not sort them first.

The instinct is to assume tighter is always better — grip the gel harder, get a straighter shot. That's true, but only up to the size of your worst gel. Feed a 7.3mm ID barrel a handful of oversized gels and you don't get better accuracy, you get jams, because the tolerance that used to forgive a slightly big gel is gone. A tight bore rewards consistency and punishes the lack of it in equal measure. If you're going tight, sort your gels first — the barrel isn't the upgrade on its own, the pairing is.
